Branding Photos That Match Your Business

Your business is unique, and your photos should be too. It does seem obvious—someone with a chicken farm probably doesn’t want the same “look” as someone who manufactures custom purses. What does that end up looking like on my end?

We meet, we talk about your business, and we talk about your vision. That simple. Sometimes you know what you need. Other times, you just know how you want the photos to look, but you’re not sure how to get there. That’s the fun part for me.

Debbie of Earth Mother Healing got ahold of me with a pretty clear request: “Nothing too corporate or stiff.” She's a Reiki Master, certified to teach qigong and Kai Chi Do, and her work centers around wellness, energy work and qigong. She wanted photographs for her website and advertising that felt “natural, earthy and calming.”

All Earth Mother Healing.
No suits.

Which made perfect sense to me. How many Reiki Masters are hanging around in stiff suits? A red flag, I would think.

Jordan, a financial planner with Glow Financial, had a completely different vision. He wanted images for his new website that showed him at work in his home office, in a meeting that conveyed a casual environment, and some photos of him with his family.

He wanted to show that he wasn’t meeting people in the traditional “man in a suit” type of setting. He wanted his clients to get a sense of the more relaxed experience they could expect from him.

So what does this mean for your branding photos?

Your branding photos should make sense for your business, your personality and the people you’re trying to reach. Sometimes that means a polished portrait in an office and sometimes it means getting outside and shaking an eagle feather. And sometimes it means bringing your family into the picture because they’re part of your life and that matters to the way you do business.

You don’t have to show up knowing exactly what you need. You can tell me what you do, who you work with, what you want people to see when they land on your website, and what you absolutely don’t want.

Then we figure it out from there. That’s part of branding photography that’s fun for me.

Because a chicken farm and a custom purse company probably shouldn't have the same branding photos. Neither should a Reiki Master and a financial planner. There isn't one branding ‘look,’ but there’s your look.

And that's what your photos should show.
